Babak Kouchaki b. 1980

Overview

Born in Iran, Babak Kouchaki is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice encompasses painting, sculpture, and calligraphy. Rooted in the visual and spiritual language of Persian art, his work reimagines classical calligraphic form through a contemporary lens—transforming script into gesture, and gesture into a meditative field of abstraction.

For more than four decades, Kouchaki has pursued a visual vocabulary that fuses material experimentation with philosophical inquiry. His paintings and sculptural works are sites of rhythm and resonance, where the written line expands into pure visual energy. Drawing upon the symbolic density of Persian calligraphy, Kouchaki blurs distinctions between text and image.

Across his diverse body of work, Kouchaki evokes the dualities at the core of human experience. His process—layered, gestural, and deeply intuitive—reflects a lifelong meditation on the act of creation itself.

Babak Kouchaki lives and works in Iran.
