AFRICOBRA: Messages to the People opened to enthusiastically delighted crowds during Miami Art Week. On opening night, all of the surviving co-founders of the influential Black Arts collective were on hand. During their artist talk the following day, they demonstrating the continued freshness of their ideas and work through enlightening conversation with a packed audience.

The sprawling exhibition features the most exhaustive selection of historic AFRICOBRA works ever exhibited in an American museum. Curator Jeffreen hayes also took tremendous care to examine the entire careers of these influential artists. Especially remarkable were the expansive and diverse oeuvres of Gerald Williams, Jae Jarrell, and Wadsworth Jarrell, showing the process by which these artists have continually evolved their aesthetic positions while remaining dedicated to AFRICOBRA‘s core principle of celebrating positive images of contemporary black people.
