Juneteenth-Tirgan Weekend at Kavi Gupta
4-7 p.m. Saturday
Kavi Gupta Gallery, 835 W. Washington Blvd., West Loop
Kavi Gupta Gallery, Crust Fund Pizza and Zaryab Art Labs are collaborating on a unique, immersive cultural and culinary event for Juneteenth. The culinary offerings will include specialty pizzas prepared by John Carruthers of Crust Fund Pizza, Shiraz qine and pomegranate sangria. Appetizers crafted by Narimon Safavi, an Iranian-American entrepreneur and founder of Zaryab Art Labs, will commemorate Tirgan, an ancient Persian mid-summer festival honoring the longest day of the year, which falls on the same weekend. Attendees will also receive a tour of the Kavi Gupta Gallery, including “Screaming at the Sky,” a landmark solo exhibition by Gerald Williams, a pivotal figure in the history of Black American art.
