I Am Somebody, at The Peninsula Hotel. Presented by Kavi Gupta and EXPO Chicago
On Friday, April 8, Kavi Gupta Gallery and EXPO Chicago celebrated the opening reception of I Am Somebody, featuring works by AFRICOBRA artists Sherman Beck, Jeff Donaldson, Jae Jerrell, Wadsworth Jerrell, and Gerald Williams, at the Peninsula Hotel.
Founded in 1968, the Chicago-based group of black artists, AFRICOBRA, created an aesthetic philosophy to guide their collective work—a shared visual language for positive revolutionary ideas. AFRICOBRA is one of the most significant art movements of the second half of the 20th century.
I Am Somebody is open to the public through mid-May 2022 and features 18 artworks on both the ground level and main fifth floor lobby of the hotel.
