Kavi Gupta congratulates Jeffrey Gibson on the opening of the seventy-ninth Whitney Biennial hosted by The Whitney Museum of American Art. Gibson is one of seventy-five artists presented in this edition of the biennial, curated by Jane Panetta and Rujeko Hockley running from May 17-September 22.

Gibson, (b. 1972, Colorado, US) combines Native American traditions with the visual languages of Modernism to explore the contemporary confluence of personal identity, culture, history, and international social narratives. Gibson’s work has been exhibited extensively around the world. Recent solo exhibitions include Jeffrey Gibson: Like a Hammer, at the Denver Art Museum, Love Song, at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, and Said the Pigeon to the Squirrel, at the National Academy Museum, New York. His work is included in multiple important collections, including that of the Smithsonian Institution, National Museum of the American Indian, the Denver Art Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Eiteljorg Museum, and the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art. Gibson received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1995 and his Master of Fine Arts from the Royal College of Art in 1998.

Gibson will present his inaugural solo exhibition at Kavi Gupta | Elizabeth St. in September of 2019.
