Tomokazu Matsuyama Takes Over Iconic Houston Bowery Wall

Street Art News, September 24, 2019

Japanese contemporary artist Tomokazu Matsuyma “Matzu” has just completed his 1,300 square foot mural at the iconic Houston Bowery Wall. Matzu and his unprecedented team of 12 assistants created an eye-catching mural with an incredibly detailed fine art technique of layering Japanese and American imagery with contemporary textile design that reflects New York City’s global culture.

The Houston Bowery mural is located at 76 E Houston St, New York, NY 10012. Goldman Properties and Goldman Global Arts will extend this residency to over three months for patrons to view.

The Houston Bowery Wall, owned by Goldman Properties and curated by Goldman Global Arts, has been the canvas for the work of some of the world’s most prominent artists, including Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Os Gemeos, Swoon, Aiko, Ron English and Lakwena, among others. Most recently, the Houston Bowery Wall was taken over by the New York-based fine artist, muralist, graffiti artist, typographer and graphic designer Queen Andrea (AKA Andrea von Bujdoss). Queen Andrea’s Believe mural was a celebration of the diversity and vibrancy of urban life in New York City. The inspiration behind the mural was a combination of juxtaposing patterns, detailed color fields and dynamic geometric shapes that convey the excitement of city life.
