JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The Mississippi Museum of Art is now showcasing works by artist Jeffrey Gibson and his use of 1960s and 70s language and singer-songwriters from the eras.
According to a press release, Gibson’s contemporary artistic practice is “converged with his Native American heritage [and the exhibit] Jeffrey Gibson: Like A Hammer explores the universal themes of race, power, control, stereotypes, and colonialism, as well as love, community, strength, vulnerability, and survival through works that incorporate both indigenous aesthetics and non-Native influences.”
The museum’s Art Night will feature Gibson on Tues. Oct. 2 at 5:15 p.m.
It’s free and open to the public. Free, guided tours of his work will also take place every Saturday at 11 a.m., through Jan. 27.
