PEORIA (25News Now) - The artist behind one of the Peoria Riverfront Museum’s larger paintings, is on a special visit, from Atlanta. Alfred Conteh is the creator of “Malik and Marquis,” on display at the museum in the “Revolutionaries: Art and Disruption” exhibition.

According to the museum’s website, as an African American artist, Conteh sheds light on the current realities of African American people by bringing their stories and experiences to the forefront. Conteh’s creative techniques range from paintings to drawings and sculptures to assemblage works.

Everley Davis, the Community Engagement Coordinator for the Riverfront Museum says, ”he’s been hitting the streets with me to find a Peoria subject to paint. We have plans to acquire that piece for our permanent collection here at the riverfront museum. It’s the first time the museum has ever commissioned a work and how incredible that it’s going to be a black work.”

His artwork can be found in public and private collections throughout the world.

Sunday, he will be back at the museum for a Q&A, from 1 pm to 2:15pm and also hold a book signing for two of his books.
