Tod’s Celebrated its Collaboration With Artist Willie Cole With a Dinner in Miami

Vogue, November 29, 2021

Just ahead of what is shaping up to be a fashion-drenched Art Basel Miami week, Tod’s hosted a dinner at Italian hotspot Forte dei Marmi to celebrate its latest mosaic collection—a capsule of handbags and accessories crafted with unused leather from Tod’s ateliers. And in the spirit of upcycling, Tod’s enlisted artist Willie Cole, who is known for his sculptures and printed conceptual works, to take Tod’s wares and craft dynamic leather-based sculptures from them. (This marks yet another special occasion in which Cole dabbles in fashion as previously, he’s collaborated with Comme des Garçons.)

In attendance were locals Karolina Kurkova, Archie Drury plus HRH Princess Deena Aljuhani Abdulaziz, Sarah Arison, Prince Sultan bin Fahad bin Nasser bin Abdulaziz, Casey Fremont, and Stefano Tonchi. Everyone sat at a lovely candlelit table aglow in a shade somewhere close to Tod’s orange and Cole’s mosaic-like words were on display nearby. Most notably, a stacked piece of the Italian brand’s iconic driving shoes. And after the dinner, Cole’s pieces will be on view at the Tod’s Miami Design District boutique through December 6.

The evening was the perfect way to kick off the week and a fine example of just how chic resourcefulness can be.
