Our friends at AllRightsReserved have teamed up with Japanese artist Tomokazu Matsuyama for the first time on the artist's first-ever wooden sculpture Natural Shell Pride, now exclusively available on DDT Store, the virtual emporium of ARR.
"What I'm creating is a mixture of different cultures and histories," Tomokazu Matsuyama has said. Eastern and Western art history and pop culture collide in artist’s fantastical paintings, which explore themes of globalization and national identity in the age of the internet. The artist, a former pro snowboarder, grew up between Japan and America, loads his large-scale canvases (sometimes irregularly shaped or divided into panels) with references to his bicultural background: He has taken inspiration from Pop art and manga, cowboys and samurai, graffiti and the Meiji era, Abstract Expressionism and woodblock printing. Matsuyama imbues his energetic scenes with a playful, optimistically hued color palette.
Apart from partnering with AllRightsReserved, Tomokazu Matsuyama is holding his solo exhibition Harmless Charm in collaboration with Sotheby’s Hong Kong. Exhibition will be available at Sotheby’s Hong Kong Gallery from June 14 to 21, featuring 13 new paintings and 9 new NFT digital artworks, marking his remarkable entrance into the digital assets world.
The sculpture is creared in an edition of 75, and available to enter the draw at DDTStore.com
