FRONT International: Cleveland Triennial, Cleveland Art Museum | Cleveland, OH
Congratulations to artists Beverly Fishman, Jessica Stockholder and Tony Tasset for their participation in the FRONT International: Cleveland Triennial for Contemporary Art.
Both Fishman and Stockholder are two of the twenty-one artists who will be exhibiting in The Great Lakes Research, one of the many events that comprise the triennial. The Great Lakes Research exhibition follows a yearlong tour of artist studios in the region by FRONT Artistic Director Michelle Grabner. The exhibition considers a local geographic home within the context of the international exhibition, reclaiming regionalism as a vital means of identifying and prioritizing cultural centers. The Great Lakes Research will continue to be on view through October 7, 2018 at the Cleveland Institute of Art’s Reinberger Gallery.
Tony Tasset’s sculpture Judy’s Hand Pavillion, a project jointly developed by FRONT and the Putnam Collection of Case Western Reserve, will be installed in Toby’s Plaza in University Circle’s Uptown. The sculpture is an enlargement of the hand of Tasset’s wife, Judy Ledgerwood, who is a well known contemporary painter. Standing 21 feet high and weighing 7-tons, Tony Tasset’s Judy’s Hand Pavillion will not only function as a place of shelter but also seeks to stimulate thought on the nature of monumentality and power, as well as depictions of the human body in art. The sculpture is one of seven featured projects planned for various locations throughout the city.
Running from July 14 to September 30, FRONT is a global exhibition with works by over 100 contemporary artists on view at upwards of two-dozen collaborating institutions and outdoor spaces across the Northeast region of Ohio, including several major museums and galleries.
