Michi Meko, Before We Blast Off: The Journey of Divine Forces: Atlanta Contemporary, Atlanta, GA
Multidisciplinary artist Michi Meko (b. 1974, Florence, Alabama) draws influence from Southern culture and contemporary urban. He has an uncanny ability to inspire an urbanized aesthetic that is innovative, challenging and thoughtful. The works allude to conditions both physical and psychological. His work is a proclamation of strength, perseverance and remembrance.
Atlanta Contemporary explores all of the nooks and crannies that their campus has to offer. One of the most visible, yet underutilized spaces is the large blank wall located in the Atrium. They view this space as a temporal solo exhibition, with each large work staying on the wall for at least 6 months, before being painted over and recommissioned for the next show. The site specific installation pushes the artists craft and practice to create something beyond their normal scale – the wall being 20 foot long and 14 foot high.
