Tomokazu Matsuyama, Same Same, Different: Lumine Zero | Tokyo, Japan
Brooklyn-based Tomokazu Matsuyama’s art reflects his bicultural experiences in Japan and America. The work on show here captures “the shared aesthetics of both extremes,” reflecting the masterful use of two-dimensional design in Nihonga painting as well as the dynamism of American Abstract Expressionism. His work goes beyond cultural stereotypes to express multifaceted interpretations of both the local and the global today.
