Portals, at the NEON Foundation Featuring Jeffrey Gibson: Hellenic Parliament Library and Printing House | NEON, Greece
Portals features 59 artists from 27 countries as part of the Cultural Programme of Contemporary Art 2021, a collaboration between the Hellenic Parliament and NEON. It is curated by Elina Kountouri, Director of NEON, and Madeleine Grynsztejn, Pritzker Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago.
The exhibition takes place in the NEON-renovated building of the former Public Tobacco Factory, now a public modern cultural hub. In this space, international artists address the concept of the collective, and our cultural understanding of history and politics, public space, and the communal past, present, and future.
Founded in 2013 by collector and entrepreneur Dimitris Daskalopoulos, NEON acts on a multitude of initiatives, spaces, and civic and social contexts, constructively collaborates with cultural institutions, and supports the programs of public and private institutions to enhance increased access and inventive interaction with contemporary art.
