work—a series of sculptural forms that incorporate the language of furniture design with objects and materials that evoke personal connections with Jarrell's past. Many of the relics that are incorporated into this body of work are found relics taken from old houses, or that otherwise speak to bygone feelings of domesticity and home. Here, we see blown glass, evoking thoughts of stained glass windows and bohemian decoration; braided ropes, invoking memories of braiding hair or handmade curtains; wooden and metal beads and chains are reminiscent of childhood toys, swings, and arts and crafts projects. The structure itself is stained, antique wood, reminiscent of the interiors of the old homes in which Jarrell grew up. It is notable that this piece sits on three extended feet. This is a recurring gesture found throughout this body of work—Jarrell extends the works an extra 12 inches, lending the work a human scale slightly higher than the typical viewer, signifying the way we relate to the past while still viewing it with a sense of awe.
