For Art Basel Hong Kong 2017 Kavi Gupta presents a tightly curated booth built around themes of labor as autobiographical context in the creation of postminimalist work.The booth features a strong focus on artists Manish Nai and McArthur Binion, exploring how the two artists of drastically different backgrounds generationally, nationally, ethnically, culturally bring their own personal and social mythologies into meticulously constructed material matrices. Each object requires significant time and energy to construct, making the pieces histories of labor rather than independent gestures removed. Each artist has an intimate relationship with the final surface, each piece requiring monastic devotion and singular focus.
