The image is based on actual night clouds Ando witnessed at the specific time noted in the title of the work. Ando paints with ink on metal, using a mixture of technique to create an approximation of the transitory nature of night clouds. The partially mirrored surface of the work is similar to the reflection of night clouds on the surface of a pond. Scientifically, clouds are similar to puddles floating in the sky. They collect sand particles and water until the water becomes too heavy, at which point it falls and collects in bodies of water on the ground, which evaporate and become clouds again. This painting is a depiction of the transitory essence of this cycle, and echoes the temporary experience humans have witnessing these ethereal moments.1of 2
