In rapture, Suchitra Mattai evokes the power of intergenerational feminine knowledge and the exaltation of the spirit through a depiction of divine fire erupting on a scattered pile of vintage sari blouses, gymnastic outfits and costume jewelry spread out upon an heirloom blanket. Through this playful amalgam of found and inherited objects and materials, Mattai aesthetically alludes to the joyful secrets of inherited wisdom transmitted from her ancestral community and larger community of friends, and carried forward into the here and now through her own life and work.
