Wadsworth Jarrell was one of the members of the Organization of Black American Culture (OBAC), whose efforts were integral to the creation of a mural called The Wall of Respect, which was painted on the side of a store in the Bronzeville neighborhood of South Chicago in 1967. This rare study for the mural demonstrates Wadsworth Jarrell's notions of positive images of Black heroes. Imagery from this study did end up being incorporated into the final wall design, especially noticeable in the lower left portion of the mural. In 1971, a fire at the location destroyed the building, along with the mural.
