This neon painting by Deborah Kass features a quote attributed to the artist Louise Nevelson: "Anger? I'd be dead without my anger." It is the latest in an ongoing series Kass is working on inspired by quotes by famous Louises. In a 2010 interview with art critic Terry Myers in The Brooklyn Rail, Kass spoke about the idea, saying, "I had this concept of doing an ode to the great Louises. “Sing out Louise,” “A Woman Has No Place,” and from Louise Nevelson, “I’d Be Dead Without My Anger.” And I always saw those in a separate room, called the Louise Suite. Anyway, the neon made sense—it just did. It was just a really natural outgrowth. It was a surprise."
