This work is part of Allen Ruppersberg's iconic Honey I rearranged the collection series. For this series, Ruppersberg imagined an art collector who collected, among other things, many of Ruppersberg's own works, and who endlessly rearranges the collection in their house according to several hundred different codifications. In this work, the collector has rearranged the collection "emphasizing our modest period. Before we met you know who." Other examples include: "Honey, I rearranged the collection using only artists with three letters in their last name," and "Honey, I rearranged the collection with artists who knew each other, but were different ages; artists who knew each other but worked differently; and artists who were influenced by artists who were soon forgotten," (both currently in the collection of MoMA).

This series is representative of Ruppersberg longstanding reliance on text as a means of demonstrating the communicative nature of language in its own right, while also using it as an intertextual tool to both critique and celebrate mass culture.

Artist Biography:
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Allen Ruppersberg (b. 1944) earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Chouinard Art Institute (now the California Institute of the Arts) in Los Angeles, California in 1967. He established himself in the 1960s and 70s as one of the most influential pioneers within the Conceptual Art movement. His work has been exhibited extensively and is widely collected by influential institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Whitney Museum of American Art, MOCA, LA and the Stedlijk Museum, Amsterdam. He lives and works in New York and Los Angeles.
