This Blossom edition print by Marie Watt constitutes a limited edition work on paper that forms part of a dynamic call and response with Watt's monumental sculpture, Vivid Dream (Awakening). The sculpture, adorned with thousands of meticulously hand-sewn metal jingles, draws from Indigenous traditions, where such jingles serve as common garment accessories crafted from the rolled metal tops of tobacco cans and other tin containers. According to Watt, these jingles are deeply rooted in Indigenous histories of craftsmanship, storytelling, adornment, and ritual. Suspended between the sky and the earth, the jingles within the sculpture possess a paradoxical quality, simultaneously heavy and weightless. When set in motion by a gentle breeze, they engage in a delicate dance, nudging and tapping one another to produce a soft murmur of sound. Each jingle becomes a vessel for storytelling, amplifying the narratives of its counterparts and resonating with every passing movement. This Blossom edition print thus captures the essence of Watt's evocative exploration of tradition, narrative, and the interplay between materiality and movement.
