Set in a dense, verdant forest, this painting shows a group of shadowy, naked figures on the left side of the canvas peering into a fiery, glowing break in the foliage. A jagged, cliff-top pathway leads from the opening to a distant horizon, over which the sun is rising. On the right side of the canvas, another opening in the foliage shows the return of the path. In this opening, the sun is setting. In the canopy of the forest swirls a star-filled cosmos inhabited by a single, ethereal being seemingly made of light. This painting belongs to a series of works in which Beck explores the theme of pathways and journeys. "It's a circular thing," says Beck. "It's all metaphorically a statement about life."
