ART ALLIANCE: THE PROVOCATEURS, JULY 31 – AUGUST 4, 2014

Juxtapoz, August 4, 2014

For the last 20 years, Juxtapoz Art and Culture Magazine has worked to create a place and dialogue for artists who stood outside of the museum programming of the time but were creating substantial and amazing work that needed its own historical context. We have been lucky in our 20th year to celebrate special events in NYC and San Francisco, but we are even luckier to get a chance to celebrate with our July 2014 cover artist, Shepard Fairey, as he curates a major public art and exhibition, “Art Alliance: The Provocateurs” in Chicago during Lollapolooza, July 31—August 4, 2014.

For the next two weeks, Juxtapoz will be posting past features from many of the artists in Art Alliance from our print edition. Some interviews are new, some old, but we hope for some people who want to learn more about these artists these features and interviews can help provide insight into the work and artists lives.

One of the major highlights of the exhibition will be that a portion of the event proceeds will be donated to Chicago Arts Partnerships In Education (CAPE), an organization which inspires students to be passionate about their education by weaving visual and performing arts into their classroom lessons. They bring academic subjects to life through art, and partner teaching artists with Chicago Public School teachers to develop original, creative lesson plans.

The exhibition will feature over 40 trailblazers of the art world including Keith Haring, Shepard Fairey, Swoon, Space Invader, Ryan McGinness, Camille Rose Garcia, Clare Rojas, Cleon Peterson, CYRCLE, D*FACE, Dana Louise Kirkpatrick, Deedee Cheriel, Dzine, Estevan Oriol, Evan Hecox, FAILE, Gary Panter, HAZE, James Cauty, Jamie Reid, Jen Stark, Lee Quinones, Mark Mothersbaugh, Monica Canilao, POSE, Ravi Zupa, RETNA, Revok, Stanley Donwood, Winston Smith, WK Interact, and more. The show will take place at Block Thirty Seven, 109 N. Dearborn Street, in a beautiful loft-like space encompassing an entire city block in the heart of the Loop.

The show will be far more than a typical exhibition by combining world-class art with experiential and interactive components such as music, public art, panel discussions, charities, local community interests, and education.

The Art Alliance: Provocateurs street and contemporary art exhibition will take place alongside, and in partnership with, Lollapalooza, one of the largest music festivals in the world, As part of the Lollapalooza tradition, a special after show (9pm-1am) has been confi rmed featuring alternative hip-hop supergroup Deltron 3030 with a Shepard Fairey DJ set on Saturday, August 2nd at the Art Alliance space.
